About Únika

Created by a dancer herself, Nika has traveled the world of dance to grow, learn, and establish a career in Bachata — and is now back in Prague to give that knowledge back and grow a positive, inspiring community. Our mission is to bring people of all backgrounds and life stages together to enjoy the couple dance of Bachata, which is growing so much in popularity.

What is Bachata

Bachata is a vibrant and passionate dance and music style that originated in the Dominican Republic in the early 20th century. Rooted in bolero and influenced by African, Spanish, and indigenous rhythms, it began as a heartfelt expression of love, longing, and everyday life. Once dismissed as music of the working class, its soulful melodies and infectious rhythms couldn't be ignored for long, and by the 1980s and '90s Bachata gained international recognition. Modern Bachata blends traditional Dominican footwork with smooth, sensual body movements and turns, often influenced by styles like salsa and zouk. Today, it's more than just steps and rhythm — it's a way to connect, express emotion, and share a moment with others, no matter your level.

Community

Bachata classes are more than just learning steps — they're about building connections. In each class, you'll meet people from all walks of life brought together by a shared love of music and movement. Through laughter, practice, and partnership, a welcoming community naturally forms, where everyone supports, grows, and dances together.

Body Movement

Partner dancing encourages natural movement, body awareness, and connection, helping you feel more grounded and confident. It's a fun, energizing way to stay active while expressing yourself through rhythm and flow.

New Friendships

There's something special about sharing a dance — it breaks the ice, sparks laughter, and builds trust. As you learn and grow together, dance partners often become friends, and classes turn into weekly meetups you look forward to. It's not just about dancing — it's about the friendships that grow with every beat.
